Feasibility Assessment of Wireless Charging Application on Istanbul Metrobus Line

Dense urbanization in megacities and the climate crisis demand innovative public transport solutions. Bus systems account for over 80% of global public transport traffic, highlighting their importance for operational efficiency. This paper assesses the feasibility of wireless charging for the Metrobus line in Istanbul, a key public transport operation. Using AVL CruiseM, a Metrobus vehicle model was created to simulate daily movements based on track and vehicle speed data. Findings indicate that wireless charging at intermediate and main stops can meet daily movement targets while reducing battery capacity costs. Future advancements in charging technology and fleet management are expected to further enhance operational efficiency.
