Dynamic Codebook Design in Non-Coherent Short-Packet Communications Using Modulation on Conjugate-Reciprocal Zeros
Modulation on conjugate-reciprocal zeros (MOCZ) is a non-coherent communication scheme designed for the reliable transmission of short data packets over unknown wireless multipath channels. Unlike traditional methods requiring channel estimation or training sequences, MOCZ encodes information onto the zeros of the transmitted signal’s z-transform, allowing the receiver to decode the message without prior channel knowledge. Recently, the multi-user MOCZ (MU-MOCZ) scheme was introduced to support multiple users in a time division multiplexing (TDM) manner. However, the use of a fixed codebook for all downlink users in MU-MOCZ can degrade performance due to different channel zero distributions experienced by each user. To address this limitation, this paper introduces a dynamic codebook design for MU-MOCZ users, which adjusts based on each user’s specific channel zeros. The proposed dynamic design adapts to each user’s unique channel conditions, improving performance across varying environments. The scheme is analyzed in terms of bit error rate (BER), throughput and packet delivery ratio (PDR), demonstrating superior performance compared to the existing MU-MOCZ scheme with a fixed codebook. This dynamic design enhances communication reliability in multipath wireless channels for downlink users.
