A Broadband Reflectarray Antenna on Glass Substrate for V-Band Satellite Applications

A novel broadband reflectarray antenna on glass substrate for V-band satellite application by utilizing nested square rings on two glass layers is developed in this paper. To enlarge the bandwidth and the transparency of the antenna, the nested metal square rings serve not only as radiation patch but also as metal bonding medium for the two layers of glass. A passive reflectarray antenna with above method is designed, fabricated and measured. Experimental results demonstrate the 3dB gain loss bandwidth is about 19% and the aperture efficiency is about 46% within the frequency band from 47.5 to 57.5GHz. Moreover, another passive array prototype with the beam aiming to 30 ° is also proved good performance by measured results Therefore, the presented reflectarray antenna is an attractive candidate for V-band satellite applications.
