The Integrated Antenna with Frequency Selective Surface Radome
With the development of modern communications, radio equipment on airborne platforms is becoming more numerous and complex. Low-profile omnidirectional antennas are widely used on airborne platforms, and loading FSS radome for antennas has become a research direction. This paper investigates the integrated design of omnidirectional antennas with frequency selective surface (FSS) radome while achieving low-profile characteristics. The integrated omnidirectional antenna consists of an FSS radome, a low-profile radiator, a gain enhancement structure and sixteen short-circuit pins. The miniaturization of the antenna through the use of a low-profile radiator. Metal FSS consists of an outer hexagonal ring and an inner hexagonal layer. The gain enhancement structure and the short-circuit pins address the radiation pattern degradation and impedance mismatching caused by the strong coupling of the FSS radome and the low-profile radiator in compact spaces. The integrated antenna can operate from 2.2GHz to 2.6GHz and has an omnidirectional radiation pattern. This paper innovatively investigates the low-profile integrated design of an omnidirectional antenna with FSS radome.
