A New Dual-Band Phase Shift Metasurface for Wide-Angle Scanning of a Dual-Band Antenna Array

This paper presents an implementation of a dual-band wide-angle scanning antenna array based on a new dual-band phase shift metasurface (PGM). The PGM consists of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$3^{\ast}12$</tex> metasurface elements. Each element is capable of independent phase shift between -200° and 50° at 3.5 GHz and 6 GHz while keeping high transmittance (the average transmission amplitude is over 80%). The PGM is loaded above a dual-band antenna array for enhancing the wide-angle scanning performance. It is shown that the scanning rang of the antenna array has be extended from <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\pm 43^{\circ}$</tex> to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\pm 60^{\circ}$</tex> at 3.5 GHz and from <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\pm 47^{\circ}$</tex> to <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\pm 60^{\circ}$</tex> at 6 GHz.
