Evaluation of the Economic Feasibility of Different Materials for Transformer Windings

Power transformers play a crucial role in the transmission and distribution of electrical power, ensuring that energy reaches consumers efficiently and reliably. The selection of winding material is a key factor that significantly influences both the performance and overall cost of a power transformer. This study conducts a thorough price comparison between aluminum and copper used in transformer windings. The economic factors of both materials, including their costs and core weights, are compared. Transformers analyzed in this research are designed in accordance with Turkey's MLZ standard. The results offer valuable insights into the relative costs and trade-offs of each material in transformer manufacturing. By understanding these costs, manufacturers, researchers, and power providers can make better decisions about material selection, striking a balance between price and performance to optimize transformer design and efficiency in electrical power systems. The insights derived from this research can contribute to more sustainable practices in transformer production, supporting the ongoing evolution of energy infrastructure.
