A Low RCS Microstrip Antenna Based on Chessboard AMC Structure in Ku-band
A new method aimed to design microstrip antennas with low radar cross section (RCS) is proposed in this paper. An effective phase difference of 180° (±37°) can be obtained over a wide bandwidth frequency range by designing the AMC unit with a reflection phase inversion point and a 0° phase reflection point. The antenna has a chessboard structure and consists of two AMC units. The simulated results show that the proposed antenna possesses more than 10dB RCS reduction with 4.6GHz bandwidth, covering the Ku band. The maximum reduction is 27 dB. Meanwhile, the radiation properties of the antenna have no deterioration, even the maximum gain of the antenna's main flap is increased by 2dB.
