The Effect of Solar Flares on the VLF Waves in the Topside Ionosphere Radiated from Ground Transmistters
Enhanced X-rays due to solar flare bursts can lead to a significant increase in electron density in the lower ionosphere, which can change the height of reflection at the base of the ionosphere. A large number of previous studies have focused on the effects of solar flares on Very Low Frequency (VLF) waves propagating in the ground-ionosphere waveguide. In this study, the impact of solar flares on VLF waves propagating through the ionosphere is investigated using the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES) satellite, and the results show that solar flares can cause energy attenuation of the VLF waves propagating upward from the ground to the topside ionosphere.
