A Polarization Switching Low-Profile Transmitarray Unit Design

This paper proposes a polarization switching low-profile transmitting array (TA) unit operating in the X-band. The receiving and transmitting patches are composed of square patches connected to two microstrip delay lines per patch layer. Crossed-shaped slots are etched on the patches to realize a dual-mode resonance. The structure can realize the polarization, switching between dual-linear polarization (x-, y-) and circular polarization. Continuous polarization transmission phase compensation is achieved by adjusting the length of the microstrip delay lines. The overall profile of the unit is only <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.1\lambda$</tex>, Simulation results indicate that the transmission bandwidth reaches 14.3%, and the axial ratio bandwidth is 8.1 %, meeting the design requirements.
