Design of C-Band Four-Element Grounded Coplanar Waveguide Feeding Microstrip Patch Antenna Array for Airborne Platform

This paper designs and studies a four-element microstrip antenna array based on grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) feeding. Rhombus-shaped patches, matching the shape of the cavity edges, are used, and the four-element array is arranged in a diamond distribution to enhance the effective utilization area of the dielectric substrate. Utilizing the characteristics of transmission lines, a 1-to-4 equal amplitude and phase-reversed power divider is employed for the feeding design. The grounded coplanar waveguide replaces the traditional microstrip line feeding structure, further improving the gain. The designed antenna is intended for airborne platforms. This paper presents an antenna design with an operating frequency range of 4.2GHz-4.4GHz, an E-plane beamwidth greater than 50°, a roll plane beamwidth greater than 50°, a vertical plane beamwidth greater than 45°, and a gain greater than 11dB.
