Experimental Study of Aircraft Detection with DVB-S-Based Forward Scattering Radar

DVB-S signals have a significant advantage as a source of opportunistic illumination for radar systems due to their global coverage and large signal bandwidth. This paper investigates the potential application of forward scattering radar based on DVB-S signal for aircraft target detection. First, we introduce the satellite signal forward-scattering radar system and its signal processing method, followed by a simulation of the time-frequency characteristics as an aircraft crosses the baseline. Next, we construct a Ku-band satellite signal-receiving system capable of effectively capturing DVB-S signals. Finally, an experiment is conducted that successfully detects an aircraft crossing the baseline, and the resulting time-frequency representation of the aircraft shows a distinctive ‘double-V’ shape, confirming the accuracy of the simulation results.
