Performance of Microstrip Antennas in Textile Applications
In this work, a textile microstrip patch antenna design has been developed for Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) applications. The dimensions of the microstrip antenna were determined using theoretical calculations, and 5.8 GHz was chosen as the operational frequency. three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation tools were used to evaluate the microstrip antenna that was constructed based on these dimensions. Examining the behavior of a textile microstrip patch antenna at various bending angles on a cylindrical surface, conformal conditions were used to evaluate the antenna's performance for application on the body (e.g., the arm or torso). To perform conformal simulations of the textile microstrip patch antenna, a human arm model was additionally integrated into the design. Additionally examining fundamental antenna parameters such as return loss and radiation pattern, a SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) analysis was performed to demonstrate that the antenna is suitable for body-worn applications. The textile microstrip patch antenna was produced, and measurements of reflection coefficient and radiation pattern were conducted.
