A method for simulating SAR images based on scattering of ray tracing
This study uses a ray tracing method to simulate urban Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images. These images are based on 3D models of buildings, the ground, vegetation, and small scatterers, obtained using a scattering of ray tracing algorithm. The ray tracing algorithm calculates the scattering paths and the power received by the SAR sensor, generating SAR simulation images. The results show that, despite the limitations of the scattering algorithm, the simulated SAR images closely match the actual scenes. All features present in the real images are reproduced in the simulated images; the shapes of buildings and vegetation are particularly clear. However, differences do exist, and these are also discussed.
