Ku-Band Dual-Circularly Polarized Phased Array Based on Short-Circuit Transmission Line Coupler
A dual-circularly polarized (CP) phased array is presented for Ku-band satellite communication applications. The 3-branch coupler excites dual-linearly polarized dipole radiations to achieve left-hand and right-hand circular polarizations. The three-stage short-circuit transmission line is meticulously designed to meet the amplitude and phase requirements of the coupler in the Ku-band. The proposed dualCP antenna element exhibits a simulated -15 dB impedance bandwidth of 40% and port isolation below -13 dB from 10.7GHz to 14.5GHz. For the 2 × 8 array, the axial ratio in the ±60° beam scanning range is better than 4.9 dB. Gain drops less than 5.9 dB over the entire bandwidth.
