Computer Simulation in Electrical Engineering
Simulation is a powerful technique particularly when applied to problems for which formulas for solution are difficult to derive or don't exist at all. Many software packages have built-in random number generators, enabling simulation to be applied.PSpice and MATLAB will be used in the examples presented. An example of a simple algorithm for generating a uniformly distributed random number sequence will be shown.Numerical integration by simulation will be illustrated by choosing coordinates in a plane at random and determining the proportion which fall under the curve. The generation of other random distributions will be illustrated with the aid of histograms.PSpice's Monte Carlo analysis feature will be used to determine the imbalance in a DC bridge circuit resulting from resistors subject to a tolerance.MATLAB will be used to demonstrate the application of simulation to problems in telephone trunk line usage and in the detection of signals in noise.
