Client-Server Applications Using Sockets in Java and C++ Languages

Java and C++ are the premiere languages used in Web-based programming. In particular, we will investigate an important component in Web-based programming called socket programming, using Java and C++, on Unix and Windows platforms. The project consists of three (3) parts.First, comparisons between Java and C++ were made with respect to syntax and program structure, as well as key features of each language.Second, using C++ and Java we created three functional programs, illustrating fundamental differences and similarities in C++ and Java.Third, a program illustrating a preliminary look into interfaces was created, called "Guess a Number".Programs created include an ATM machine simulation called "ATM Machine", a leap year program called "Leap Year", and a tax bracket program called "Income Tax".The first program, ATM Machine, illustrates the concepts of basic menu-driven programming in Java and C++.The second program, Leap Year, illustrates control structures using complex selection and the third program, Income Tax, illustrates control structures using complex selection and character manipulation. The "Guess a Number" program is a game simulation where the user has to guess what number the computer will generate, and illustrates the concept of random number generation in Java and C++.
