A Study on the Historical Placeness of Hanam Region as the Old 'Eupchi' of Gwangju through the Old Map of the Late Joseon
This study is a historical-geographical approach to urban areas that emerged as independent administrative districts relatively recently by using Hanam City as a case study. To this end, I first looked at the process of administrative district change in the current Hanam city area, and based on that, I looked at the locational characteristics related to the historical process of Hanam city, focusing on the old map of the late Joseon Dynasty containing the Hanam city. In relation to the change of administrative districts in Hanam city, the Gwangju-bu system of the Joseon Dynasty and the Gwangju-gun system that emerged in 1914 became a major geographical, historical, and administrative foundation that cannot be overlooked. The historical process of Hanam city, which has long served as a administrative center('Eupchi') for Gwangju-bu, can be said to have been maintained as a center at the regional level as an old administrative center('Eupchi') for Gwangju-bu even after the administrative functions of Gwangju-bu were transferred to the Namhansanseong at the national level in 1626.
