TRAVEL OF ENGLISHMAN EDWARD RAY TO THE KOLA NORTH IN 1879
The article is devoted to the review of the book by the English traveler and stockbroker Edward Ray “The White Sea Peninsula, Voyage to Russian Lapland and Karelia”, published in 1879 and is an important English-language source of ethnography of the Kola North in the second half of the XIX century. The peculiarity of E. Ray's travel notes is a detailed description not only of the Murmansk and Tersk coasts, but also of the Kola Tract, northern Karelia and the Solovetsky Islands. Despite the lack of deep scientific analysis, the book contains important data on the history of the Kola North.
