Smart Pill Box: An IoT-Integrated Application for Monitoring Patient Medication Usage at Home
The Internet of Things (IoT) has swiftly evolved from a futuristic idea into a tangible reality, integrating billions of devices worldwide and significantly impacting various industries [1]. In healthcare, IoT has enabled remote patient monitoring, enhancing patient safety, improving health outcomes, and empowering healthcare providers to offer optimal treatment [2]. This article introduces a healthcare application based on IOT designed to remind patients to take their medication on time through audio alerts via a mobile phone app. The system is connected to a handheld device used by the patient and a touch screen for patient interaction. Additionally, the system enables physicians to remotely monitor and analyze patient medication adherence through a web-based interface, thereby supporting remote healthcare management and enabling immediate decision-making. We conducted research and constructed an actual product model, performing tests encompassing both hardware and software. The results have showcased the system's efficacy in creating a secure and integrated environment for precise patient monitoring and timely updates to physicians regarding their medication statuses.
