Visualizing Analysis of Game-Based Learning and Learning Performance: A Bibliometric Study based on Web of Science from 2000 to 2024
The integration of computer technology into education has enabled a variety of teaching methods. Recently, Game-Based Learning (GBL) has emerged as a significant topic of academic interest due to its educational potential, making it a dynamic area of study across multiple disciplines. This study used VOSviewer to analyze recent research trends in GBL, providing a comprehensive overview of the current research landscape of GBL. The findings reveal that: 1) Most articles published in journals are in the research area of educational technology and computer education. 2) A small group of researchers has contributed to a large proportion of the publications. 3) Visualization analysis shows the establishment of an international collaborative research network, with significant contributions from researchers in Taiwan, the US, and China. 4) Keyword co-occurrence analysis identifies diverse research orientations and interconnected themes within GBL, offering insights into evolving research trends. 5) Co-citation analysis highlights foundational sources and interdisciplinary contributions, mapping the academic landscape and guiding future research by identifying seminal works and influential contributors. These results emphasis the importance of GBL and its adaptability to educational and technological advancements.
