Beyond Blending: Unveiling the Influence of Integrated Online Learning on Second Language Effectiveness
The increasing integration of information technology in educational settings has notably propelled the appeal of blended learning, harnessing its unique advantages. Despite its potential, the mere juxtaposition of online and offline components within blended learning often impedes its full classroom efficacy. This has spotlighted the necessity to evolve from a mere blend to a cohesive integration, a transition that warrants thorough exploration. This paper delves into the intrinsic qualities of integrated teaching, devising a model and framework that transcend the conventional. A case study within a Chinese-as-a-second-language classroom serves as a test-bed for the proposed integrated teaching design. This study scrutinizes the intertwined relationship between online learning behaviors and the efficacy of the integrated learning model, gauging learner satisfaction and the model's impact on the readiness to communicate in a second language. The findings underscore three pivotal insights: the significant correlation between engaged online learning activities and enhanced learning outcomes, the superiority of the integrated teaching model over non-systematic blended approaches, and the influential role of the integrated online environment on communication willingness, with cooperation and task orientation emerging as key determinants. The paper culminates with a strategic synthesis of integrated instructional design principles, offering a blueprint for elevating the caliber of online teaching and learning endeavors.
