Streamlining Global Visa Processing and Document Verification: A Self-Sovereign Identity System for Secure and Efficient Visa Processing Using Hyperledger Indy
Travel and tourism have become vital economic sectors, significantly contributing to global GDP and employment. In the era of global travel, the fastest visa processing and comprehensive immigration document verification are indispensable for both security and convenience. Traditional procedures had inefficiencies, long processing delays, and limited cross-border cooperation between countries and immigration agencies. However, rising crime rates pose substantial challenges, especially when offenders exploit international travel to evade justice. This paper proposes a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) based system leveraging Hyperledger Indy to revolutionize visa processing and verification, addressing concerns of travel history and potential criminal activity. The system utilizes Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs) to enable secure, decentralized communication among key entities: passport offices, visa centers, and immigration authorities. The interoperability between different countries' networks is facilitated by Hyperledger Cacti, ensuring seamless collaboration across borders. This allows for efficient data exchange, significantly reducing the time needed for application processing while enhancing security. Through this innovative approach, the system enhances the integrity of travel records, expedites visa applications, ensures compliance with data privacy regulations, and strengthens border security, ultimately protecting national interests.
