A Novel Fault-Tolerant Method for Securing IoT Networks Against DDoS Attacks

Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks disrupt communication between nodes in distributed Internet of Things (IoT) networks. Numerous protocols have been proposed to detect and prevent these attacks, but most focus on single-layer solutions and are effective only within limited time frames. This paper presents a novel fault-tolerant algorithm designed to enhance the stability and security of IoT networks by mitigating DDoS attacks across multiple layers. The proposed method integrates data replication, alternative routing, and automatic error recovery to ensure continuous operation under attack conditions. Simulation results demonstrate significant improvements in key metrics, including latency, energy efficiency, communication overhead, and overall network capacity. The method was implemented and tested against the baseline EIDDM algorithm in MATLAB, showing superior performance in all evaluated areas. The integration of fault tolerance, trust management, and multi-layered defense strategies makes the proposed algorithm a comprehensive solution for IoT security.
