LULC Classification of Sentinel-2 Satellite Image Using Random Forest Algorithm in Google Earth Engine
This study aims to assess the accelerated land use and cover transformations occurred in Dehradun, India due urbanization induced economic growth leading imbalance of ecological stability. We developed an LULC classification model with the Random Forest algorithm using Sentinel-2 satellite data and Google Earth Engine platform to find these LULC changes. The result was a high-accuracy LULC map that fused the frequent all-weather imaging capabilities of Sentinel 2 along with GEE's extensive geospatial processing engine and RF robustness. Using imagery from Sentinel-2 satellite a significant land cover changes over the years are detected for the use of sustainable urban planning, environmental management. The methodology of the study may be used for reproducing LULC mapping in similar studies, further supporting environmental monitoring and policy making.
