Physical assessment of Bisgma phosphorylation as a candid preventive material

Objectives. The objective of this study was obtained by surface modification of monomers using Bis-GMA, which was performed to increase the bonding capacity with the tooth surface, microhardness and reduce the microleakage. Methodology. The targeted Phosphorylated Bis-GMA resin was synthesized. The surface modification was confirmed via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The modified monomer blended with polymers like HEMA/PEGDA/Bis-GMA in a 1:1 ratio (50%: Bis-GMA phosphorylated; HEMA; PEGDA; 50% Bis-GMA) were prepared. The resin was compared with the control samples like UltraSeal XT Hydro and Clinpro conventional sealant and then characterized by FTIR, Microhardness, and Microleakage test. The extracted third molars were used. Three distinct groups were assigned to receive the newly developed, Clinpro traditional, and Ultra seal XT Hydro sealants. Ten teeth (Groups I, II, and III) had their buccal and occlusal surfaces acid etched. Group I received a sealant called Formulated Bis-GMA, Group II received 3M ESPE Clinpro, and Group III received Ultra-seal XT Hydro. After undergoing thermocycling procedure, the produced specimens were analyzed for microhardness using a Vickers instrument, and microleakage using a stereomicroscope. The significance was analyzed using the Chi-square and Krushkal Wallis tests. Results. Phosphorylated Bis-GMA is a resin-based material. FTIR analysis confirmed the formation of Phosphate groups in Bis-GMA resin. Under light curing conditions, the material attained a degree of conversion of 40.6±2.2%. Group III had a greater instantaneous mean microhardness value (43.3 ±1.04) than Group I (11.5 ±0.94). With ten samples, Group I have lessened leakage (scoring zero), whereas Group II has more, which is significant. Conclusion. The experimental resins based on Bis-GMA phosphorylation exhibited fewer properties compared with the samples like UltraSeal XT Hydro and Clinpro conventional sealant. Therefore, early dental caries treatments should promote minimally invasive preventative techniques like sealants.
