Comparison of TextBlob and Custom Spelling Correctors for Grammar Autocorrection

This paper presents a comparative analysis of TextBlob, a popular grammar correction tool, and a custom-developed spelling correction module integrated into a Grammar Auto-corrector system. The primary goal is to assess the performance of both models in correcting spelling and grammatical errors using a dataset of 1,000 sentences, each containing a mixture of common language errors. The study evaluates key performance indicators, including accuracy, precision, and recall, to determine which model provides more contextually accurate corrections. Results show that the custom model, built on advanced transformer-based architectures, surpasses TextBlob in all metrics, achieving a higher accuracy rate (91% vs. 85%) and better handling of complex grammatical structures. Additionally, the paper explores potential improvements for the custom model, such as enhancing its ability to process text in real-time, expanding support for multiple languages, and addressing challenges in recognizing idiomatic expressions. Overall, this study demonstrates the benefits of using deep learning models for more effective grammar correction, suggesting avenues for future research and development in this area.
