Hydro-Sense: Precision Agriculture and Water Conservation

Inefficient water management practices in agriculture result in the wastage of water and have adverse effects on crop yield. To address this issue, we present "Hydro-Sense," a precision agriculture approach that aims to supply crops with water only when needed, thus conserving water resources, and enhancing crop Our work focuses on creating a hardware and software system that determines a crop's water needs based on its unique characteristics, its immediate surroundings, and the quantity of water stored. We have developed two main formulas: one that classifies the water at hand according to plant urgency, and another that assesses the plants' need for water based on a variety of parameters, like soil moisture, plant species, and atmospheric conditions. The hardware prototype of Hydro-Sense includes sensors to collect relevant data, a calculation module to determine water requirements, and a distribution mechanism to supply water to plants as needed. The software component integrates these calculations and data collection, providing real-time information to farmers through a user-friendly GUI frontend displayed on an app. Our findings demonstrate the effectiveness of Hydro-Sense in conserving water while ensuring optimal plant growth. Agriculture is made more sustainable and effective by Hydro-Sense, which optimizes crop output while conserving water by regulating the supply of water based on plant requirements.
