Drug Discovery and Development Process
It is the process used in the identification of a molecule that may be used therapeutically to treat and cure sickness. Various methods in drug discovery involve candidate identification, synthesis, characterization, and validation; optimization; screening; and testing for therapeutic efficacy. Should the compound prove very promising in these researches, then a medication development process will start before the clinical trials. A new drug has to pass several phases of development before it can be generated into a safe and efficient treatment that is to follow all the regulatory requirements. We have, in this paper, argued succulently against the multiplicity of biological targets for screening of a new pharmaceutical for its licensure—a prolonged, intricate, and dear process. It may also be necessary to procure new research tools in such a way that every new target is scrutinized properly. A scientific discovery needs time-to-time development into a drug that is profitable. The time from discovery to an approved drug ranges between 12 to 15 years and requires the spending of $1 billion US. On average, a million molecules are assessed and one will rise through the higher levels of the clinical trials to be available for patients. This paper describes the outline of discovering and developing novel drugs.
