The Effects of Coach-Athlete Relationship and Resilience of Team Sports Athletes on Exercise Persistence

The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effects of the coach-athlete relationship and resilience of team sports athletes on exercise persistence. A total of 215 collected data were analyzed using frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS 26.0. The research results are as follows. First, the results of examining the relationship between the coach-athlete relationship and exercise persistence showed that closeness and complementarity had a significant positive effect on exercise persistence, while commitment did not have a significant effect. Second, as a result of examining the influence of the coach-athlete relationship and resilience, the sub-factors of the coach-athlete relationship, closeness and complementarity, and the sub-factors of resilience, positivity, emotion regulation, and communication skills, were found to have a significant positive effect on exercise continuity. On the other hand, the sub-factors of the coach-athlete relationship, commitment, and the sub-factors of resilience, problem solving, and empathy, did not have a significant effect. This study suggests that the role of coaches and athletes' resilience are important for athletes' continued participation in sports.
