The Relationship Among Grit, Mindfulness, and Athletic Engagement in Adolescent Student-Athletes
This study aims to verify the direct causal relationships among grit, mindfulness, and athletic engagement for adolescent student-athletes. It also examines the mediating effect of mindfulness in the relationship between grit and athletic engagement. Data were collected from 387 adolescent student-athletes and analyzed using PASW 25.0 and AMOS 23.0 software for frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. The significance of the mediating effect was verified through bootstrapping. The results indicated the following: first, grit positively affects athletic engagement adolescent student-athletes. Second, grit positively influences mindfulness. Third, mindfulness positively impacts athletic engagement. Fourth, mindfulness partially mediates the relationship between grit and athletic engagement. Thus, developing and promoting grit training programs can enhance grit, mindfulness, and enthusiasm for exercise among adolescent student-athletes, which will ultimately contribute to their successful achievement of goals.
