The media literate reader – the goal of the National Library of Latvia
The object of the article is the National Library of Latvia, explored during a research visit on August 14, 2024, with special interest in the collection of rare editions, the permanent exhibition "The Book in Latvia" (Latvian: Grāmata Latvīgi) and the temporary exhibition "The Text Does Not Interest Us" (Latvian: Teksts mūs neinteresē). Result: Evidence was found for the thesis of the library as a reciprocal institution for media literacy to the school. Conclusions: The awareness of the object “book” in state library strategies is no longer limited to the Gutenberg codex format. The book is operationalized as a media that can be read with the five senses, which expands its functions as a tool for positive manipulation and at the same time remains the most stable platform for creating and mastering natural intelligence. The National Library of Latvia is an example of a reader-centered library – the management team follows trends in science, technology and the publishing business, organizes various initiatives and exhibitions about the history and culture of the country, but with an inalienable reference to the constantly changing habits and needs of readers.Note: Downloadable document is in Bulgarian.
