THE PROBLEM OF PAIN SYNDROME IN CHILDREN WITH CEREBRAL PALSY
Cerebral palsy in children is the symptom complex of non-progressive motor disorders, which are based on structure damage of the central nervous system in the perinatal period. A common concomitant disorder of cerebral palsy is pain syndrome, which in most cases is complex and heterogeneous. Syndrome is represented by the following types of pain: pain associated with increased muscle tone, forced body position and contractures; pain associated with the digestive system; primary and secondary headaches; situationally-caused musculoskeletal pain; pain accompanying by bedsores; functional types of pain. In case of the absence of timely treatment pain syndrome over time leads to its transformation into proto- and neuropathic variants with loss of effect from traditional types of analgesia. Absence of unified principles for relieving pain in children with cerebral palsy leads to a significant decrease of their quality of life, decrease of the effect of rehabilitation measures and requires the participation of a multidisciplinary team of specialists in the field of neurology, orthopedics, psychiatry, gastroenterology, pediatrics because of the polymodality of the problem.
