Teachers’ ideas about 17 goals of sustainable development and their relation to Environmental Education

Agenda 2030 and Education for Sustainable Development (E.S.D.) indicate 17 goals of sustainable development as an educational priority. What is the status in Greece? The main pursuit of this research is to find out whether Greek educators follow this line and apply it when they plan their projects. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data from sixty five educators. Data analysis shows that even though educators consider socio – economic goals of high importance, when they schedule Environmental Education (E.E.) programmes they focus on environmental goals. One might say that educators don’t fully implement the mandates of E.E. or Education for the Environment and Sustainability (E.E.S.). Social values issues, such as equity and justice, and economic goals should be addressed during the educational programmes. Perhaps, an in-service suitable course could be effective.
