A Study on the Change of Flashpoint according to Alcohol Concentration

In this study, the flashpoint according to the concentration (wt%) of four alcohols (methanol, ethanol, propanol, and isopropanol) among the hazardous substances of category 4, under safety control of dangerous subatances act was measured through a Cleveland Open Cup flashpoint meter. As a result of the measurement, methanol 4.2 ℃ , ethanol 5.85 ℃ , propanol 2.73 ℃ , and isopropanol 3.22 ℃ higher than the literature, and the average of four samples was 4 ℃ higher. The flash point at 60wt% compared to 100wt% for each sample increased by 31.5% methanol, 15.1% ethanol, 10.7% propanol, and 17.7% isopropanol, and methanol was the highest risk reduction effect through dilution, and propanol did not significantly reduce the risk.
