A Study on the Flash Points of Class 2·3 Petroleum CUT-OFF Materials According to the Hazardous Materials Safety Management Act
This study examines the flash points of CUT-OFF materials classified as class 2 and class 3 petroleum under the hazardous materials safety management act, comparing experimental results with literature values. Using the setaflash 8 active cool closed-cup apparatus, the flash points of Isoamyl acetate, cyclohexanol, and n-amyl acetate (class 2 petroleum) were 36℃, 60℃, and 38℃, closely aligning with literature data. For amino-2-propanol, 3-methoxy- -methyl-1-butanol, 4-methylcyclohexanol, Butylbenzene, and Ethyl acetoacetate (class 3 petroleum), the flash points were measured as 76℃, 69℃, 69℃, 53℃, and 66℃, respectively, with notable discrepancies in some cases. In class 2 petroleum (21℃ ~70℃), 7 substances in the 21℃ ~26℃ range and 12℃ in the 65℃ ~70℃ range showed deviations from literature values. for class 3 petroleum (70℃ ~200℃), 20 substances in the 70℃~75℃ range exhibited significant variations. These findings highlight the need for a reliable flash point database to ensure accurate classification and enhance hazardous material management.<br/> This research contributes to refining classification standards and provides foundational data for improving chemical safety and preventing accidents. It emphasizes the importance of revising the petroleum classification criteria under the hazardous materials safety management act and conducting further studies to establish a systematic flash point database.
