Numerical Investigation of Reinforced Concrete Frame With Weak Joints: A Preliminary Investigation

A preliminary numerical investigation of the seismic performance of reinforced concrete frame structures with weak joint is conducted in this study. The structural numerical model was cut from the original experimental model as a preliminary investigation. The numerical analysis results show that no significant damage occur at the first story joint (weak joint). Based on the past experiment conducted, structural failure due to weak joint is lower than the structural failure due to non-ductile column. However, the structural response in the numerical model (acceleration, drift ratio, shear, and axial column) still does not match the structural response in the experimental model. This is because the numerical model doesn’t have inertial mass wagon as in the experimental model.
