Some Reflections on the Balance Between Research in So-Called “Hot Topics” and Traditional Engineering Topics

During my years as a researcher and lecturer, my activities have mainly concerned Signal Analysis, Condition Monitoring, Signal Processing, Active Noise and Vibration Control, Remotely Controlled Laboratories, and Analytical and Experimental Modelling of Mechanical and Acoustic Systems. However, in recent years, my activities have become increasingly related to Industry 4.0 and the digitalization of the industry as subordinated enablers for professional solutions.
