CLINICAL PORTRAIT OF HIV-INFECTED WOMEN SHORTLY BEFORE DEATH
Based on the characteristics of HIV-infected women who died over the past 10 years in Minsk, it was found that diagnosis of HIV infection at an older age (p<0.00001) and in an earlier calendar period (p<0.00001) was associated with a decrease in life expectancy. HIV infection was detected in female IDUs at a older age (p=0.0002), and their life expectancy was shorter (p=0.03). Infectious and inflammatory diseases were the direct cause of death in less than half of HIV-infected women; the harmful consequences of drug or alcohol consumption led to the death of every fifth patient, viral cirrhosis of the liver - every sixth. AIDS was diagnosed in 38.7 % of deceased women; however, only a quarter had severe immunosuppression. Every fourth HIV-infected woman died in the asymptomatic stage, more than half had an undetectable level of HIV VL. Women coinfected with HIV and HCV lived significantly longer (p=0.0006); had a higher CD4 lymphocyte count on the eve of death (p=0.034) and a lower HIV VL (p=0.0002). Only a fifth of patients with HIV had high compliance to ART. Discontinuation from treatment reduced women's life expectancy (p=0.03)
