A Criticize the Study of Yangming Studies by Iso Kern
This article is a thesis criticizing the study of Yangming Studies by Iso Kern. Iso Kern is significant in that he interprets the two aspects of Wang Yangmyeong and descendants as the self-attesting part and Buddha-nature based on his understanding of Mere Conciousness Buddhism, but he has limitations in that he does not understand Buddhism's cultivation theory and describes it phenomenologically from an external perspective. Iso Kern's study of Yangming Studies is a philosophical book that describes the history of Yangming and descendants. Because he majored in Mere Conciousness Buddhism, it was possible to divide Liangzhi into three. His achievements deserve high praise. Nevertheless, there is insufficient research on him at present. It is appropriate, but the content is not. Liangzhi as the selfattesting part is considered moral, and Liangzhi as Buddha-nature is considered religious. Whether Liangzhi is understood as self-evidence or Buddha-nature, all should be considered in the Buddhist Zen meditation, and this cannot be separated from religious thinking. Liangzhi as the self-attesting part should be understood in Mere Conciousness Buddhism. the self-attesting part can be revealed only when the sixth conciousness's, the partr of the seen is removed and the part of the seeing is stopped. We can see the limitations of external perspectives of Western phenomenologists. In the study of Yangming's descendants, Iso Kern also organizes it according to his composition, but treats it equally in plan. In terms of cultivation theory, it should be considered in the order of Liu Zhong-ju, Nie Bao, Luo Hong-xian, Wang Ji, and Wang Gen. If Liu Zhong-ju is close to a Zhuzi study, Qian De-hong, Ou Yang-de, Zou Shou-yi, Nie Bao is at the beginning of Yangming studies, Luo Hong-xian is at the middle of Yangming studies, Wang Ji is at the most mature level, and Wang Gen goes one step further and reveals it as a self-flight that practices specific social welfare. If these differences are not explained, their topographic map is not well understood. This is based on the understanding of cultivation theory. The descriptions of Yangming studies and descendants, which are not supported by the cultivation theory are bound to have limitations.
