A Study on the Construction of Riverbed Topographic Using Airborne Bathymetric LiDAR data

Riverbed surveying involves measuring the shape, depth, and topographical features of a riverbed to build spatial information about the riverbed. This information is crucial for flood and disaster prevention, river ecosystem protection, design and maintenance of river structures, and studies on sediment transport and erosion, making it essential for comprehensive river basin management. Traditional riverbed surveying methods include direct surveying and the use of acoustic sounding instruments. However, advanced surveying techniques such as drone photogrammetry, LiDAR, and satellite remote sensing are increasingly being utilized. Among these, ABL (Airborne Bathymetric LiDAR), which allows for depth measurement over large areas, is particularly advantageous for efficient and cost-effective riverbed and river surveying. Despite the advantages of ABL system, domestic research on its applicability to riverbed surveying remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to establish methodologies for constructing riverbed information using ABL survey data acquired for the same river in 2020 and 2024. A DEM (Digital Elevation Model) of the riverbed was developed, and its utility was evaluated. Additionally, time-series analysis was conducted using the DEMs constructed from data collected at different times to verify the applicability of this approach for investigating riverbed changes.
