À la croisée des chemins d’Exú : La spectacularisation de la Kimbanda en Argentine

This article investigates the festive events held to honor the Exus in the Afro-religious variant of Kimbanda in Argentina. Our interest lies not only in understanding the process by which this type of festivity has achieved great popularity, but also because we consider, a priori, that they allow us to know the characteristics that religious systems assume around the perceptions of the actors and the urban contexts in which they are developed. The three axes of this work are the analysis of the characteristics attributed to Exú, the historical reconstruction of the most important events and the properties of the festivities in an urban context in Argentina. We will see that the festive events destined to Exú have been spectacularized through the incorporation of innovative interventions that dialogue with a market of production and consumption, but also with the needs and inequalities that this same model of accumulation generates.
