NOTION AND GENESIS OF NOUN-FORMING SUFFIXES IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

In this paper, a thorough analysis of morphological changes in language is conducted, with a particular focus on the development and use of suffixes that form nouns. The research shows that suffixes play a crucial role in word formation, providing semantic and syntactic integration of nouns and reflecting changes in social, cultural, and technological conditions. The author of the paper provides a detailed analysis of the historical development and origins of suffixes, using a diachronic approach to determine how suffixes stabilize or modify over time. Significant attention is given to the impact of scientific research on the development of approaches to studying the semantics of suffixes, especially in the context of new theoretical ideas that open broad horizons for understanding changes in the meanings and functions of suffixes. The paper includes a review of existing works that discuss the classification of morphological elements, aiming to define the boundaries of contemporary understanding and identify missing aspects of research. This helps to analyse the contribution of scientific works to the development of the theory of evolutionary word formation and compare the key concepts and approaches proposed by various researchers. In particular, the paper examines the evolution of approaches to analysing the functions of suffixes in word formation over the last century, emphasizing the importance of understanding both the formal and semantic aspects of their use. Studying changes in the meanings and functions of suffixes, which have occurred under the influence of scientific paradigms, shows the dynamics of linguistic changes and the interconnection between different linguistic levels. The research findings confirm that suffixes are key elements in the structure of the word, facilitating linguistic adaptation and reflecting changing conditions. This allows to get a deeper understanding of word formation processes and their impact on the cultural and communicative needs of society, reflecting the dynamic nature of language development.

The paper includes a review of existing works that discuss the classification of morphological elements, aiming to define the boundaries of contemporary understanding and identify missing aspects of research.
