Research progress on acupoint massage in prevention and treatment of postoperative constipation in elderly patients undergoing orthopedic surgery

Constipation is a common complication after orthopedic surgery. While causing physical and psychological pain to patients, it also prolongs hospitalization time, increases medical costs, and affects postoperative recovery. This article reviewed studies on influencing factors of postoperative constipation, mechanism and application status of acupoint massage in prevention and treatment of postoperative constipation, in order to provide theoretical basis for relieve postoperative constipation and improve quality of life in elderly undergoing orthopedic surgery.
