Blockchain-RFID Integrated Model for Preventing Counterfeit Migration in Post-Supply Chain

Counterfeit products pose significant risks to public health, consumer safety, and the integrity of supply chains. This paper presents a Blockchain Model of Ownership Record System (BMORS) for combating counterfeiting in the post-supply chain. BMORS is based on a novel approach by integrating Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology with the blockchain. By leveraging RFID tags, we capture detailed product information at each stage of the supply chain, ensuring real-time data collection. This information is securely stored on a blockchain, creating a decentralized, transparent, and immutable ledger of transactions. The blockchain-based system automates verification processes through smart contracts, enhancing the traceability and authenticity of products. Consumers, manufacturers, distributors, and regulatory authorities can access these tamper-resistant transactions to confirm product ownership and history of ownership, thus significantly reducing the incidence of counterfeit goods. Our implementation on the Ethereum platform demonstrates the cost-effectiveness and reliability of this solution, with performance evaluations indicating that transaction management remains efficient even upon increasing the number of ownership transfers. This research underscores the potential of combining RFID and blockchain technologies to ensure product authenticity, enhance consumer trust, and streamline post-supply chain operations. The proposed system offers a robust framework for future work in anti-counterfeit measures and supply chain management.
