Research on the Range and Location of Faults in Distribution Networks
A quick fault identification and ranging concept that combines segment positioning and traveling wave methods is suggested in light of the shortcomings of the existing popular fault location methods in distribution networks, which lack precision and insufficient real-time performance. This technique combines the traveling wave approach with the switching function to accomplish fault localization and ranging. It does this by measuring the fault traveling wave propagation time and using the distribution network fault current data that the FTU collects. This approach can properly estimate and pinpoint the fault site in the early stage of the problem, as demonstrated by calculation examples and simulation analysis. It also has strong real-time performance.
