Pre-service Practitioners on Virtual Biochemistry Classes
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic engendered science subjects such as biochemistry to adapt to a fully online modality. It opened the possibility of optimizing online classes to courses that used to require physical setups. Studies investigating pre-service dentists’ perceived relevance and recommendations for this setup remain few, hence the conduct of this study. Anchored to a case-study research design, 11 respondents were chosen using purposive sampling. Using an online data-gathering tool, the responses to open-ended questions were collected. These responses were thematically analyzed afterward. Results revealed that respondents find the course relevant and important academically and personally. Meanwhile, the respondents’ recommendations were lumped into ACES: Advocating for the learning preference, Connecting to real life, Engaging learners, and Scheduling in class. From these highlighted results, the researchers recommend them as guiding concepts that future researchers and academic stakeholders can benchmark.
