A Virtual Reality Face Recognition System for Revolutionizing Attendance Tracking
Nowadays, taking attendance is crucial in classrooms. Participation in teaching and learning sessions is a key predictor of student achievement and commitment to academic pursuits. However, traditional manual methods in universities are often slow and prone to errors. To address the problem, this project introduces Vista Attend, a VR face recognition attendance system designed to streamline attendance recording. Using a VR device like Meta Quest with Vista Attend, lecturers can scan students' faces, automatically recording attendance in real-time. A database stores students' facial profiles and basic information, which can be accessed in Augmented Reality through the VR headset, enabling lecturers to view student profiles, including matric numbers, names, and faculties. This feature allows lecturers to familiarize themselves with their students visually and is beneficial for personal academic interaction since most lecturers cannot recognize their students. This system will be developed using Unity as the platform, and an application was crafted to operate optimally on a VR device. Vista Attend will significantly enhance the speed and reliability of attendance recording. Also, it will replace traditional methods and become a major method in the future. Compared to traditional methods, this application offers a more streamlined and user-friendly experience, and users can significantly reduce attendance fraud and avoid the absence of accurate attendance reports. In summary, this research presents a practical integration of face recognition and VR technology for the educational sector, suggesting that universities might benefit from adopting such advancements to modernize students' attendance tracking procedures.
