Corporate Governance and Non-Financial Risk Disclosure: Insights from Companies Listed on the Bahrain Bourse

This study examines the connection between corporate governance mechanisms and the non-financial risk disclosure (NFRD) in non-financial companies listed on the Bahrain Bourse (BHB). It analyzed data from 19 companies over a five-year period (2018–2022), focusing on board characteristics such as size, independence, nationality, ownership, and meetings in addition to control variables. The research employed a descriptive approach and multiple linear regression to evaluate hypotheses. The principal findings demonstrate that the dimensions—nationality and ownership—of board members correlate favorably with the extent of NFRD. Conversely, factors like board independence, number of meetings, and attendance rates do not show a significant relationship with disclosure levels. The study recommends enforcing compliance with the Bahraini Corporate Governance Law and suggests increasing the representation of foreign board members and implementing employee stock ownership plans to enhance governance and transparency.
