Advanced Detection and Mitigation of Smurf Attacks Using AI and SDN
ICMP based smurf attacks are used to increase denial of service (DoS) conditions on victim systems. In this paper, we analyze smurf attacks by considering the use of smurf attacks to broadcast address and IP spoofing mechanisms on network infrastructure as well as services. Finally, the paper also discusses mitigation methods including ingress filtering, correct network devices configuration as well as intrusion detection systems to assist organization to effectively cope with these threats and make their systems more robust against those.
