The Impact of Electronic Monitoring on Employee Performance: Enhancing Transparency, Accountability, and Productivity
This paper investigates the role of electronic monitoring (Monitoring inputs, monitoring operation, monitoring employee's behavior) on performance behaviors, with a focus on its impact in promoting transparency, accountability, and productivity. The present research was carried out at STC Bahrain Telecommunications Company and involved the entire population of the human capital, which consists of 823 employees. This study employed a descriptive analytical method to assess the ‘state of the art’ of e-monitoring and in the process of describing that state tried to describe the features of the phenomenon, the types, the interactions, and the drivers. This approach enabled the researchers to gather data comprehensively, classify it and then present it before proceeding with an analysis and interpretation of the same. Convenience sample of 235 respondents was used with 95.3% responding rate used in the study. The results showed that there is a statistically significant positive correlation of all the dimensions of electronic monitoring on the performance behaviors of employees in the company. More specifically, electronic control of inputs was identified as one of the most important measures which can provide significant benefits including real-time monitoring and enhancement of the inputs' performance. But, the study also found out some risks with electronic monitoring such as cost concerns, employee infringement, cost and legal issues and technicalities. These findings will assist in understanding the factors that can facilitate improvement of performance work outcomes in organizations.
